I was astonished at some of the design "features" they had at TVA's Browns Ferry plant and Three Mile Island. I knew better at the time and I was just out of school.
And I'm still astonished that companies build systems where they don't verify the current state equals the commanded state.

Good luck in this country. I'll believe it when I see it but until we get the new proposed plant in Georgia off the ground, I will doubt we have the fortitude to build another plant.

Nuclear energy is much safer than it was 30 years ago. I believe that it can be a viable alternative energy source.

Thorium has been waiting in the wings for the last 25 years or longer as a power source for reactors. It's cheap, clean, efficient and plentiful. The facilities don't even need a cooling tower if thorium is the source. It's that safe.

NE Ohio has 2 of them (Toledo & Painesville). No cheap power from them at all.
Bigger joke is Electricity is so expensive that low income folks, who get PIP (Pay Income Percentage) for gas (10% of income for the month). So we pay $72 a month. The State gave us $392 credit to the gas company, so we have $562 credit at winter's end. So next year we will pay much less. AT&T gives us $3 local phone service, no caller ID, no LD or toll. Fine for us since we us 800, 866, 888 numbers. But electrcity has PIP from Nov-May at $44.15 (5% PIP) and then June-Nov you pay you entire electric bill and the past due amkount from the winter bill. SO YOU GET 0% DISCOUNT! So they offer budget billing. Where are Nobama's DEMS to help?

When you mention China and India are building nuclear, "fast and Furious", this has to be a concern. We know neither are concerned with rules or regulations.
Past experience shows the at least China is suspect when it comes to safety both for their workers and the environment.
China has exported numerous consumer goods to the U.S. that have been tainted with deadly chemicals in products used by consumers.
We can not trust China in this area without close scrutiny. We have another Toyota on our hands with global consequences.
Let's hope this does not spread to the U.S. which has kept nuclear closed for health and safety reasons for a long time now.

...and so just when is the USA going to get on board with this and become the world leader again? Maybe when the politicians quit worrying about re-election and start doing the job they were sent to Washington to do!!!!

What radioactive waste product will we have to contain after we burn thorium? Let's work harder to promote renewable, clean--and safe--sources of energy.
